Billitonite comes directly from the Island of Belitung, Indonesia and are very difficult Tektites to find in today’s marketplaces. These Tektites were formed by the processes of a meteorite impacting with the ground 780,000 years ago, fusing particles of sand and trace metals. The force of these objects throws droplets of this molten material high into the limits of the outer atmosphere and beyond.
Billitonites have unique scrolling patterns and glossy/enamel texture. One theory for their amazing formations states that the process of vitrification, cooling, and reheating upon re-entry causes cracks within the glass droplets.
