Moldavite Deposit Sites & Locations

Moldavite can be has found in various locations in the Czech Republic. This Tektite has been heavily mined since the early 1970's with the a lot of the Strewn Fields or Mines as we call them are now closed. 

So where do we get Moldavites from

The most famous locations are the ones in South Bohemia, Bohemia, and Moravia, including Besednice, Locenice, Slavce, and Chlum, which produce the highest quality moldavites.

Ninety percent of all moldavite finds have come from the South Bohemian localities

 Below is a list of the Moldavite Deposit / Mined locations in the Czech Republic.

 

(1) South Bohemian deposits

(2) Koroseky 

(3) Besednice 

These 3 Locations above are situated in the territory among Prachatice, České Budějovice and Trhové

 

Nová Hospoda – location is approx 1 km southwest from Koroseky

Dobrkovská Lhotka – locstion approx 4 km on east from Besednice and 8 km south from Trhové Sviny.

Radomilice – region is around 5 km northeast from Vodňany.

Nesměň – this area is located in Koroseky sandy gravels 18 km southwards from České Budějovice. 

Slavče – region is 12 km on the southwest 

Třebíč - Třebíč is a town in the Moravian part of the Vysočina Region

 Slavice – Location is 3 km southwards from Třebíč

Slavětice – Is a range of gravel islands which lies between Dalešice and Dukovany

Dřenice – The moldavites are mined in the local sand pit north of the village.

Obilná  mining activities here are in the top of the small hill between Obilná and Nebanice. 

 

Today, only four moldavite mines continue to operate in the Czech Republic. The reports suggests that all Moldvites could be fully mined out within the next 10 years which is one of the reasons today this highly sought after tektite is in such high demand and prices on the rise.
